WinSol spring update

There's a major do-over going on for the greenhouse.  Hundreds of flower and
vegie seeds have been planted.  A new dwarf cherry tree and a relocated one from the outside have been moved inside the greenhouse.  It'll be interesting to see how the 10' tall ceiling curbs their growth - bonsai maybe?  The solar hot shower is working again - so the luxury of  more frequent hot rainwater showers will be the norm until October.

I like this time period.  April through October is always the nice period at WinSol. between  October - April you never know when an artic front will move in - like they have for the last 5+ weeks.

COVID19

Life is pretty normal here compared to most other places. I have noticed myself being a bit more cautious about bats flying around - are they kissing cousins from Wuhan?  (they sure do look like flying rats, don't they? If only we could evolve to having wings..)

The damage from the big snow dump 5 weeks ago is keeping me busy.  We've finally had warm temperatures (70/45) and blue skies - California normal. I still go into town once a week for my bike ride and shopping.
The major change is not being able to socialize with friends and sit down coffees and meals.  And, I probably would have been at Lake Tahoe and Yosemite by now.  But I am still planning a north coast trip at the end of the month.

I just read the NYTimes article why California has one of the lowest infection and death rates in the country.  Our single driver culture, suburban sprawl, spacious restaurants and that the 49ers lost the Super Bowl - thereby avoiding a victory parade.  That eases the pain a bit!

Looks like everywhere nursing homes have been hit the hardest.  Not just in Europe, but also everywhere in the USA.  Another reason to never get into one.

In a strange way, I kinda like this 'shelter in place' and keeping 6ft away from everyone.  There's a huge upside for the environment and wildlife - huge!  It'll also be our 'greenest' period in over 50 years.  Maybe we'll even get unhooked from consumerism - hey, one can dream!?  But the biggest upside for me is that we're all more likely to not get sick from common colds and flus and other contagious things.  I always, always take extra precautions in winter when touching public door knobs and handles (an unfortunately being around kids - aka big germ spreaders).  Most people know how the flu feels - why go thru that again?  I do hope we keep the 6 feet separation going in the winter time for years to come.  It's good for everyone, except crowded venues and restuarants; but they can adapt somehow.  I can see the new floor layouts and maybe even full-body human suits/shields coming to a store near you soon.
